CAMO Technical Records: Eight Checks Before Aircraft Redelivery

A practical framework for verifying the evidence behind aircraft continuing-airworthiness status reports.
Why the records chain matters
An aircraft status report is a useful index, but it is not proof by itself. During a CAMO review, the underlying maintenance records must substantiate the status, component identity, dates, utilisation and compliance decisions.
Start with source evidence
For each selected record, identify the applicable work order or task card, the certificate or approved release where required, and the relevant aircraft or component hours and cycles. Cross-check the installed part and serial number against the configuration status.
AD and SB compliance
An AD status should distinguish applicability from accomplishment, identify the applicable revision and compliance method, and reference the supporting evidence. A Service Bulletin status should not be used as a substitute for an AD compliance assessment.
Component traceability
For life-limited components, reconstruct the required life history and ensure the accumulated utilisation is supportable. For hard-time and on-condition components, verify the applicable control basis and the maintenance programme tasks rather than relying solely on installation dates.
Repairs and modifications
A closed embodiment work order is only part of the story. Verify approval basis, effectivity, instructions for continued airworthiness, and any changes to maintenance planning, electrical load analysis, aircraft configuration or operational documentation.
Practical review workflow
Build a sample across ADs, components, repairs and modifications. Trace each selected line from the status report to its primary evidence; compare identities, dates and utilisation; record gaps precisely; and close findings only when the evidence supports the status.
Redelivery readiness
Keep the records index and source evidence aligned throughout the lease. This reduces last-minute document recovery, unresolved exceptions and uncertainty for the receiving operator or lessor.
CAMO takeaway
A reliable status report is not merely complete-looking. It is reproducible: another competent engineer can follow its references and reach the same conclusion from the original records.
